What is Depression Really Like?

What does depression feel like? How can someone literally just not be able to get out of bed or eat or function at all? You may have wondered this, or assumed you "understand". Believe me, unless you have fought depression yourself, you do not understand.

Below you will find a link to a very readable post (in the style of a graphic novel/comic book) from Allie, the exceptional talent behind Hyperbole and a Half. It is the best non-technical explanation of depression I have ever encountered. While everyone is different, and the experience described is unique, it is brilliantly conveyed. By the time you are done reading it, I promise you will know more than you did before about what it feels like for some who suffer with depression. Family and friends of those who suffer may benefit significantly from reading this. It is probably not exactly the same as what you or they are dealing with, but it is definitely a good introduction to some of the feelings associated with depression. It is important to understand everyone experiences depression differently. *Please note that reading this will affect you, strongly.

Hyperbole and a Half: Depression Part Two

I would like to say a special thank you to Allie for crafting this exceptionally brilliant piece of the internet, and give proper credit for both the image and creative genius represented here. Allie, you rock.
