Fees & Payment

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?

Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or sushi. Okay, I'm kidding about the sushi (I wish!).

Q: How much do you charge?

Making that first call to a therapist can be uncomfortable, and making it about money can make it more so. Knowing the fee up front means one less thing to worry about. Here are the answers to this question. Prices are per 50-minute session:

  • Normal business hours: individuals $200; couples $250; families $250

    • Fees are $50 higher for sessions after 5 pm or on Saturdays

    • Sessions are 50 minutes. 75-minute sessions may be available for some appointment times, and are charged pro rata.

    • A limited sliding scale may available for some 50-minute appointment times, subject to availability

    • I am not currently accepting new couple clients, only individuals (this page is updated when this changes)

  • Telehealth is available for clients anywhere in California.

  • All sessions are conducted via Telehealth Video. In-person sessions are not available.

  • Private-pay sessions are conducted via Matthew McLean Family Therapy, Inc.

  • All clients paying privately are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate. Please click here to view the notice about this and feel free to contact me with any questions.

Q: Do you Accept insurance?

YES: I am in-network for Optum, HealthNet, and Cigna

  • I take insurance for work with individuals only.

  • Individuals can use insurance or pay privately

  • Couples and Families are seen on a private-pay basis only

I have been a staff therapist at Change Within Reach, Inc. (CWR) for nine years, where I am currently in-network with Optum/United Healthcare, HealthNet, and Cigna. Please check with your insurance to see if you are covered under Optum, HealthNet, or Cigna for mental health benefits. I do not do EAP work. All billing and administration for insurance clients is handled through CWR.

In addition to working with CWR, I see clients paying privately through my private practice, Matthew McLean Family Therapy, Inc. (MMFT). Upon request MMFT may provide you with a superbill (a summary of fees paid accompanied by a diagnosis) for sessions for individual therapy, which you may be able to submit for reimbursement from third parties. Please check with your insurance provider prior to commencing therapy to determine if you are eligible for reimbursement for out of network providers.

  • Couple and Family Therapy is only conducted via MMFT.

  • MMFT does not take insurance (CWR does, see above)

  • MMFT does not bill or interact with insurance companies directly

  • MMFT does not accept direct reimbursement from insurance/third parties. Please make sure your insurance will reimburse you directly. Reimbursement checks received by MMFT are automatically returned to the sender without being cashed.

  • MMFT does not issue superbills for couple or family therapy

Change Within Reach, Inc. (CWR) is not affiliated with Matthew McLean Family Therapy, Inc. (MMFT) in any way.

Q: What is your cancelation policy?

A minimum of 24 hours advance notice is required to cancel an appointment. If a session is missed or canceled with less than 24 hours notice, the client is responsible for the full fee for the missed or canceled session. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Additional policies and information regarding fees, payment, and financial responsibility can be found in your Informed Consent Agreement.
